A Commercial Lifestyle Shoot for Freya Lillie
Freya Lillie is a sustainabl, luxury children's clothing brand based in Durham — the kind of label where the clothes are beautiful enough to deserve more than a white background. Michelle, the brand's super lovely and talented owner, wanted something that felt lived-in and real: the clothes in motion, in context, in the hands of actual children doing actual things.
We shot across two Durham locations — the city itself, and a small farm just outside it. Both felt right for what the brand is. There's something about Durham that manages to feel both grounded and quietly beautiful, and the farm gave us space, light, and the chance for the children to run free.
My job on a shoot like this is mostly to get out of the way. Children are at their best when they've forgotten the camera is there — wandering, investigating, getting distracted by something more interesting than the lens. Those are the moments worth catching.
It's the same instinct I bring to my family work: keep things calm, stay observant, and trust that something genuine will happen if you give it room.
For brands like Freya Lillie, that approach means the product gets to live in a real moment rather than a manufactured one — and that's usually what makes the difference between an image people scroll past and one they stop for.
