Family photography Durham shoot.  A family photoshoot doesn’t need to mean studio lights and stiff poses.  Sometimes the most beautiful images come from the simplest activities - just like this family beach session on a late sunny afternoon in May.

I spent an hour with this lovely family doing something they do regularly love to do (well as much as the north east weather allows!) - hanging out on a picnic blanket by the sea.  The beach was the perfect place to let 3 year old Jules, explore and be himself and let 1 year old Esme crawl round in the sand, find her feet and paddle in the sea.  Jules provided the finale shots doing his usual strip everything off for a naked sea paddle hehe.  Not one awkward pose or pretend to have fun pose - just lots of laughter, bare feet and salty air.

There a magic in photographing families this way, where kids lead the pace and the grownups can follow and relax in the moment.  You get images that capture more than what your family looks like, they will also help to remind you what this time in your life felt like.  For this family these images will be so very precious to mum and dad, then Jules and Esme when they are grown up and then their children and on it will go.

If you’re thinking about some family photography in Durham, consider doing something you already love to do, a beach walk, picnic in the park or pottering around at home - these everyday moments are the ones you’ll treasure most.  And the best part?  Your don’t have to do anything special.  Just be yourselves.
