Every Saturday morning looks the same for the Kirbys - their 3 year old on his bike, and their beaut of a baby enjoying the world from her mama's arms, both ready for their weekly adventure in their local park.
Often the most beautiful photography sessions are the ones that don't feel like photography sessions at all. So when the Kirbys told me about their weekend outing—a family walk with coffee shop pitstop included—I knew we had something special. This wasn't about creating moments; it was about capturing the ones that already existed.
So I simply tagged along on their usual adventure.
The route was theirs, the pace was theirs, the stops were all theirs. I was just there to notice the magic they live every week. The tree-climbing detour? Absolutely typical. The coffee shop visit? Pure Saturday routine. Back home, we captured more moments in their living room and garden.
This is what I love about documentary family photography. You don't perform or pose or be anything other than exactly who you are. You just do the things you'd normally do, and I capture how beautiful your regular life is.
In ten years, the kiddies probably won't remember these walks. But these photographs will show him exactly what their childhood looked like—regular Saturday mornings full of joy, adventure, and love that shows up in a thousand tiny gestures.
Because your real life is more beautiful than you realise ♥️
